Just an update on an interesting real estate story. The Cube House, as it has become known, has sold. Here are my thoughts on the home.
Listed for $349,000, the house in Toronto’s east end sold for more then $100,000 above asking. The selling price is extremely high for a home on Coxwell Ave, as it is a busy street that lacks character and isn’t particularly valued. In addition, the original owner built the home on a limited budget. He bought an otherwise unwanted, misfit piece of land and built a house that needed little excavation.
That being said, buying a piece of land, getting the necessary approvals and building your own house is not an easy task. Not only that, he didn’t just build any house, he built a house unique to him. Whatever your thoughts may be on the design, it was an admirable labour of love.
For this reason, I would argue a home such as this will only ever truly define the character, personality and vision of the original owner, no matter how much someone else pays for it. The new owner is out alot of money and possibly out of her mind.
